What Is the ELI Assessment, and Why Should I Learn About Energy Leadership?

This is one of the most frequently asked questions from new and prospective clients.

I’ve found that many leadership coaches and programs fail to realize the importance of energy-focused growth. That’s why I’m so passionate about the Energy Leadership Index (ELI) assessment.

Because when you change your energy, you change your life.

A Tool For Intentional Awareness: The Energy Leadership Index Assessment (ELI)

The Energy Leadership Index assessment is a fantastic tool that I often use at the onset of our coaching journey to benefit you as the client. It’s not mandatory to work with me, but I will preach its power until the cows come home! Because I believe uncovering and understanding our energy as leaders propels us forward to embrace authentic, fulfilled lives.

The ELI assessment is a research-backed attitudinal assessment to help you understand the energy you bring to the world – and most importantly, as a leader.

After you take the assessment, the results provide your unique energy profile. You’ll receive a report that outlines your energy profile and expands on what the energy levels mean for your growth.

You learn where your energy – heavy or light – resides.

Not only that, but you will also understand how your energy is triggered and the impact your energy has on your daily life. You’ll learn how your energy shifts under stress and how you can manage it to find grounding and confidence as a leader.

This knowledge gives you the power to consciously change the way you view your world, leading to a more fulfilling life and career.

Become A Stronger, More Authentic Leader

The ELI attitudinal assessment illuminates important pieces of your story to support your growth as a leader:

  • How you perceive things

  • Your attitude towards uncomfortable or difficult situations

  • Your behaviors in response to stressful circumstances

  • Your innate capability as a leader

It's like holding a mirror up to the things you might miss otherwise. The things too close to you to see from an unbiased outside perspective.

With this information, you’re able to get a pulse on your current level of awareness and performance.

Raising your consciousness in this way is vital to your growth as a leader. Putting words to what you’ve been feeling or struggling with enables you to find forward movement towards your leadership goals.

And it goes without saying for most of us that some of the lowest points in our life have been catalysts for growth towards the highest points in life. But The ELI assessment is not just about pointing out “the bad” – it’s about pointing out “the good” too, and harnessing your energetic strengths! (Or what I like to call bright spots!)

The Energy Leadership Index website does a wonderful job of explaining how this happens:

“The ELI assessment takes something abstract, like how a person views the world, and turns it into something tangible. It’s a metric that you can see and feel and even reevaluate in the future to stay true to yourself and empower authenticity in your life and your work.“

We all view the world through filters based on our unique experiences, values, assumptions, etc.

Those filters do one of two things:

  1. Limit what we seelike tunnel vision

OR

  1. Expand what we see like a prism

What we see impacts how we perceive situations that arise.

It impacts how we handle conflict or hardships.

It impacts how we view our circumstances.

How you perceive + view life = how you show up in situations.

So do you want to see with tunnel vision or prism vision?

Taking the time and space to uncover your personal filters and how they are influencing your “results” (success or lack thereof) opens your eyes to:

  • How your energy manifests in your home vs. work-life.

  • How your mindset or situation is creating stress for you.

  • Internal energy blocks holding you back from success, happiness, and purpose.

The wonderful thing about the ELI assessment is that each new discovery is helpful and insightful. Even the findings that feel negative or heavy teach you something.

They propel you forward into who you ARE, not who you think you’re supposed to be.

How the ELI Assessment Measures Your Energy

The Energy Leadership Index assessment measures your energy through a strategic online questionnaire that takes about 15-20 minutes to complete. You’ll do this assessment on your own and then debrief with me  to discuss and apply what you’ve learned.

As part of the assessment process, you’ll receive a personalized report that outlines your unique results across seven levels of energy. Those seven levels are based on two main types of energy – anabolic and catabolic.

Anabolic (Fueling) Energy

→ Feels like: Energy to continue moving through the day and enjoy all aspects of life.

→ Manifests as: Constructive, expanding, fueling, healing, long-term, growth-oriented focus.

Catabolic (Draining) Energy

→ Feels like: Burn-out, exhausted, stressed, working really hard to keep going all day.

→ Manifests as: Restrictive, heavy, resisting, contractive, short-term-focused.

These tangible results give you a reference tool and language to explain how you might be experiencing life under normal circumstances verse under stress. This awareness arms you with the information to see what’s working and what’s not. This is the first step towards your desired change.

It’s a lightbulb moment when you realize the simple, intentional changes you can make around your energy to shift into a more conscious, authentic presence. As your coach, I’ll help you illuminate and create a framework for these changes.

The ELI Assessment Helps You Understand Your Stress In a New Light

Not only do we take a deep dive into your unique energy levels to understand your leadership style, but the ELI also measures your stress reactions – both conscious and unconscious. This helps you form an understanding of where your stress stems from, how it manifests, and your patterns around stress (healthy or unhealthy).

Recognizing your reaction to stress and how long you stay in a stress reaction is key in reducing overall stress. Understanding your reactions to stress positions you perfectly to challenge old beliefs and past responses. You get to decide what you want to keep – and what you want to leave behind.

Intentionally seeing and tapping into your stress energy can be very mobilizing, but only when it’s done with intention. This is why I believe in the power of the ELI assessment to guide you into a world of new possibilities.

The ELI Assessment Teaches You About Yourself

You’ll learn so much more than I can express in words. It’s often an eye-opening and profoundly  moving experience. It’s a rebirth of sorts for many leaders.

A former client once shared, “Julie introduced me to the Energy Leadership Index Assessment; during our debrief, she absolutely nailed who I was from the Index results. I was amazed that she had such insight into my experience so quickly – and it was so affirming to be understood so deeply.”

The results of both your energetic profile + your energetic stress reaction help us understand:

1. Your current leadership ability

2. Your current level of engagement in life

3. Your current level of consciousness (your awareness about who you are and what you want).

Grabbing hold of these important aspects jumpstarts your awakening, your desire to find authenticity, and guides you to embrace your unique leadership style based on the energy you bring

We use the ELI assessment to create tangible goals for your leadership journey.

Paired with a leadership coaching relationship, we can continue to hone and fine-tune personal and professional goals while holding you accountable for your growth.
